Trader Joes Mini Beef Tacos Allergy Info

As a former cheesemonger, I know one thing to be true: Cheese is a key ingredient in all of the best meals, from pizza to grilled cheese and of course, mac and cheese. But it's recently gotten a bad rap for its fat and sodium content. Womp, womp.

However, eating moderate amounts of cheese every now and than can be pretty good for you, says Karen Ansel, R.D. "Not only is cheese packed with calcium and protein, hard, aged cheeses like parmesan and Gruyere contain compounds that have been linked to less colon cancer, inflammation, and weight gain," she says. However, it's best to avoid going overboard. "The key is to savor it like the French in small portions instead of piling it on," she says.

We couldn't agree more. But where to find the best cheeses for every possible occasion (and price point)? I combed the shelves of Trader Joe's to find some affordable, high-quality cheeses that I would gladly serve (and eat!) myself. Look no further than these 16 great options fit for a variety of occassions. Cheap, fast, easy, done!

Best Salad Cheeses

Skip the powdery shaker of parm, and go for the good stuff. (Hit the reset button—and burn fat like crazy with The Body Clock Diet!)

1. Authentic Greek Feta in Brine, $6.49
Slice into thick slabs and throw it on top of chopped cucumber, tomatoes, green peppers, and black olives tossed in olive oil and lemon. Add salt, pepper, and oregano to taste for a winning Greek salad. FYI: Naturally low-fat feta dries out quickly, so buying it in the brine is the way to go. (Avoid the pre-crumbled version.)

2. Crumbled Gorgonzola,$3.49
Cut a head of iceberg lettuce into four sections, and top with Russian dressing, sliced cherry tomatoes, chopped scallions, bacon or veggie bacon, and these gorgonzola crumbles. Wedge salad challenge officially unlocked! Pro tip: Skip anything that is just labeled "blue cheese" and nothing more. The specific varieties, such as gorgonzola, are always better.

3. Goat's Milk Cheese Medallions Marinated in Herbs, $4
Make a bed of baby spinach, top with some roasted beets and these babies. Use the already herbed marinade the cheese comes in as dressing. Dinner is served.

4. Freshly Shaved Parmesan, Romano, & Asiago Cheese, $3
Excellent with kale or arugula, avocado, tomatoes, shallots, and vinaigrette.

These little balls cozy up nicely with cherry tomatoes, basil, and olives. You can use sun-dried tomato spread (from Trader Joe's of course) when fresh tomatoes aren't in season. Serve alongside some crusty bread and you've got an instant Italian antipasti platter.
